Research has shown that the University of Lincoln has ranked in the top 30 universities for chocoholic students.

The British Heart Foundation carried out research showing that the University of Lincoln is 27th in league table for student’s consumption of chocolate, with a whopping 16,709 chocolate bars bought in just one term.

Galaxy bar has proved to be the most popular with students, with 1,404 bars being bought in only 4 months.

Phoebe, 19, studying Advertising and Marketing at the University of Lincoln said: “I’m not surprised because there’s so many chocolate shops in Lincoln. I struggle to pass them myself without entering because the doors are always open, you can always smell it.”

International Relations student Tom, 21, said: “It’s probably just me, I eat so much chocolate on an average day. For sweets in general there’s a lot of traditional sweet markets on the top of the hill that Lincoln’s quite famous for, like at the Christmas markets, so that could come into it.”

Ellie, 18, an English Literature student at the University of Lincoln also agreed how easy it was for students to be tempted into purchasing chocolate, she said: “Chocolate’s quite cheap, so its a nice easy snack for students to buy, but you don’t really see it around very often. I’ve not seen many people eating it.”

Reema, 18, studying Politics said: ” Everybody eats chocolate around here, but its not really a specific thing for Lincoln.”

However Business Management student Michael, 19, disagreed, he said: “I’m surprised it’s one of the most chocoholic universities in the country because I barely see it around.”

The British Heart Foundation has urged students to join their scheme and take part in this March’s DECHOX.

DECHOX is a challenge set by the charity, to encourage people to give up all chocolate, sweets and treats in order to maintain healthier eating habits and raise money for life saving heart research.
