Vodafone is following in the footsteps of other phone companies, and has begun rolling out 4G internet to its customers in Lincoln.
Individuals on Vodafone’s Red 4G plans will now be able to connect faster to a more reliable internet. There will also be a wider range of music, sports, movies and television programs available to enjoy.
Vodafone has recently begun a £1 billion attempt to improve its national network, and the increased 4G coverage is part of this.
Including Lincoln, there are now 460 districts and cities around the UK that have 4G network coverage, as well as thousands of smaller towns and areas.
The overall aim is to provide coverage over 98 per cent of the population of the UK, either by 2G, 3G or 4G services.
The UK was one of the last countries to join 4G. EE was the first phone network to begin rolling out the faster data, at the end of 2013, with Vodafone and O2 following afterwards.
People will be able to watch videos online without buffering, and access web pages much faster. According to EE, the 4G network “bring speeds five times faster than 3G to the UK”.
4G is also useful for those living in rural and remote areas, where broadband may be unreliable. It also reaches further around the counry than 3G, making mobile networks one of the most frequently used.
