Lincolnshire has been chosen as a pilot area for the Department for Transport’s ‘Bikeability Plus’ scheme.
It aims to encourage more young people to get into cycling by giving the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today’s roads.
Lincolnshire County Council has been awarded £25,000 to deliver a series of modules designed to engage children and families with the opportunities, skills, support and guidance to make cycling part of their everyday lives.
Philip Watt, cycling officer at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “As a council we’re really excited to be a part of this, we’re one of only seventeen schemes across the UK to take part. The vast majority are taking place in larger cities, so for us as a large rural council to take part in this is great and we’re really excited about it.”
These modules will include learning to fix a puncture, adjust brakes and planning cycle routes for journeys.
