The Strugglers Inn based in the Westgate area of the City has been named as Lincoln’s Campaign for Real Ale pub of the year.

The pub has a fascinating history, a public house has been on the site since the 1840’s with an ale house situated before the house. The pub named the Strugglers Inn because as prisoners were taken to be hanged on Burton Road the waggoner would stop at the Inn to give the convicts one last beer before travelling to the gallows.

The pub’s landlady Anna was delighted to receive the award which saw Strugglers beat off 240 competitors in Lincoln. She explains what makes a good pub.

A good pub comes from a community spirit. The fact that people feel they belong here and have a input in the place. We put on several occasions for them and if there’s anything we can do for them in a way of raising charity funds we’ll put on events for them. Its engendering a good spirit in the pub.

If you’re looking for a good, community pub with good ale then pop in to the Stragglers Inn and say hello to Anna who is very knowledgable about the beer on top and the history of the pub. To find more about the Campaign for Real Ale, visit there website
