Planning permission has been submitted for a new fast-food outlet on West Parade which residents claim will blight the area.
The plans come from Skegness-based business The Sweet Slice Group, who want to turn a disused veterinary centre into a new Lincoln-based restaurant.
Currently, the proposal is under consideration by the City of Lincoln Council’s planning committee, with the decision set for March 1st.
Long-term residents like Maggie Da Costa firmly dispute the application.
“My next-door neighbour is in her 80s and we already have to put up with the extra traffic in the day with deliveries, and in the evenings, taxi drivers and delivery drivers congregate, contributing to the noise.
Cooking smells from this other takeaway already permeate the area.”
Residents also feel something of greater use to the community should be considered, like a butcher or a florist.
“We want to preserve the quality of life for long-term residents and families in the conservation area.”
The new shop is set to be situated on 131 West Parade.
The City of Lincoln Council said.
“We thoroughly analyse and consider all planning applications before they are given the go-ahead, as is the case with this particular proposition.”
Residents also voiced their concerns related to poor diet and obesity, with two schools situated less than a two-minute walk from the proposed site.
This remains a growing concern among communities, with similar fast food restaurants and takeaways propping up across local areas in favour of more suitable stores.
