Winter Walk opening this week

Brightwater Gardens’ Winter Walk will become open to the public this Friday.

The gardens, located in Saxby, have more than 150,000 snowdrops, crocus and winter iris on site. The seasonal walk is a quarter of a mile long, and takes visitors through the gardens and woodland.

Chris Neave, owner and gardener at Brightwater, said: “We run the Winter Walk because we garden for the public, and we want to attract people to the garden. Not many places have a winter walk.”

Mr Neave is predicting that this year they will have the biggest turnout yet, because for the first time the walk will be open for three weeks, starting on February 15th and running until March 10th.

“We’ve been doing it for about five or six years and we get about 1500 visitors, but this year we’re expecting more – maybe a couple of thousand,” Mr Neave said.

Brightwater is one of the newest winter gardens in the UK, and covers eight acres of meadow and woodland.
