A new campaign to stop motorists from using their mobile phones whilst driving is being supported by Lincolnshire Police.
The National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) has launched ‘Hang Up’ which aims to show drivers the dangers of being distracted by a mobile phone when they are driving as well as the penalties they will face if they are caught.
Since 2003, it has been a criminal offence to use your mobile phone when you’re behind the wheel and if you are caught will result in three points on your license as well as a £100 fine, although the penalties could be getting harsher within the next year.
Unfortunately, it seems that the number of drivers being distracted is on the rise. In a survey conducted by the RAC, where 1,714 motorists questioned, 31% of them admitted to illegally using their phone when they were driving. This is compared to 8% in 2014.
