A woman from Louth is set to walk the equivalent of four marathons in four days, finishing in her hometown where she overcame her battle with mental health.

Elizabeth Mills, walking leader for the Mind Over Mountains mental health charity, will trek from the Peak District to Lincolnshire between Thursday May 22 to Sunday May 25.

She plans to raise money for Project 500, a campaign supporting Mind Over Mountains charities.

Elizabeth – who now lives in the Peak District 0 will be walking and running with her partner, staying in Airbnb’s along the route to not go off track. Her training has involved mostly running to prepare.

She said: “I wanted a challenge, and finishing where my parents live seemed perfect, as this is where I got the most support during my mental health journey.”

And she added: “I am looking forward to meeting people along the way and also some time away from the desk, but not for day three, which has a lot of tarmac on country roads!”

Helen Wooldridge, a charity member, said: “Project 500 will aid in enhancing wellbeing support walks and retreats.”

Helen explained: “The idea came from our founder Alex Staniforth, who chose Project 500 because he turns 30, and some facing mental health issues may never reach 30.”

Helen added: “It means a great deal to us that a team member is taking on such an exciting challenge.”

Elizabeth’s challenge is personal as well as for the charity and encourages people to get out in nature for wellbeing benefits.

She said: “People don’t need to do something as big as I did, just make a challenge personal.”
