Lincoln Japan Festival is returning this month for the sixth year, encouraging residents and visitors to embrace a different culture and lifestyle.
The festival, which runs from February 16 to February 23, is a full week of engaging workshops and events based on the Japanese way of life.
Some of the workshops include manga-drawing, calligraphy, sushi making and a tea ceremony and will be held at a number of venues around Lincoln.
A theatre show will also take place at Lincoln Drill Hall, presenting Japanese tales through the creative use of puppetry and music.
Although there is no direct link between Lincoln and Japan, the team at Blueprint Film, who run the event, have a strong interest in the Japanese lifestyle and are keen to share their passion with the Lincolnshire community.
David Brook, technical manager at Blueprint Film, said: “Our team is very passionate about Japanese culture, so we decided to put the first festival on six years ago when we came across a funding opportunity. We decided to carry on running the festival on an annual basis as we discovered a lot of people in Lincoln shared our interest and felt no one else was doing anything similar in the city.”
“It’s vital to educate people on different cultures and ways of living. Travelling to other countries is expensive and time consuming though, so we’re helping people experience another culture by bringing it to their doorstep.”
A taiko drumming performance will take place in the City Square on February 16 from 10am to mark the start of the festival along with a karate demonstration from Lincoln martial arts team Strike Zone.
