Hundreds of thousands of demonstrators marched upon the nation’s capital as the Trade Union Congress planned to protest against the government’s plans for cuts to the public sector.
The demonstration was the largest the country has seen since 2003, when people took to the street as the UK’s involvement in the war in Iraq grew.
