A Lincolnshire Wig Bank has officially opened its doors to the public.
Established by volunteer stylist Tracy Harper, the free service caters for people who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.
Operating from St Barnabas Hospice therapy centre on Hawthorn Road in Lincoln, the appointment only service is open between 9am and 12am every Monday.
Mrs Harper said: “A trip to the salon is generally regarded as a happy occasion and a chance to indulge yourself, this can all change once a person becomes ill and begins to lose their hair. For many people their hair is such an important part of their identity that losing it can have a direct impact on their confidence and self-esteem.
“Someone who is experiencing hair loss can often feel anxious about attending a regular salon as they are worried about how other people will react to it. The Wig Bank provides a safe and relaxing atmosphere where friends and family are welcomed to provide support at what can be a challenging time.”
Helen Campion-Rayment lost her hair during cancer treatment. She regularly uses Mrs Harper to style her wigs.
“With Tracy, she has that knowledge about the cancer side of things, which makes you feel comfortable because she offers great advice.”
