Lincoln shops closing down

High Streets all over the UK are suffering from major closures of big stores. In 2017 alone around 5,860 stores have closed down.

Lincoln unfortunately does not get left out of this. After BHS closing down in August 2016, it has been followed by Toys R Us and Homebase to permanently disappear from Lincoln. Other stores, such as Bonmarché, have relocated elsewhere and leave a gap in the city centre.

The main reasons for these close downs are a rise in online shopping and the high rent for High Street properties.

Listen below to students thoughts on this matter:

According to Lincoln BIG, Lincoln city centre is the largest employment centre in Lincolnshire, with over 10,000 people being employed.
