Lincoln’s New Theatre Royal is excited to reopen its doors and is prioritising COVID safety to welcome back audiences next month.

The theatre is preparing to reopen on May 21, with its new show ‘Strictly Cabaret X’.

Natalie Hayes-Cowley, the theatre’s Artistic Director, said: “We are beyond excited and ready to bring the magic of live theatre back to Lincoln audiences.

“For us as a theatre, reopening the doors will be everything.

“We have produced the show ourselves, so everything from the show goes directly back to the theatre.

“We’re hopeful that this production can happen and we can welcome audiences back next month.”

The show will feature iconic songs, dance routines and a bespoke set.

There will be five performances in total, scheduled across late May and June.

Indoor theatres and entertainment venues have been closed since March 16, 2020, due to COVID-19.

After over a year of closure, the arts and entertainment industry are allowed to reopen on May 17, under the Government’s roadmap plan.

COVID-19 precautions will be in place for those reopening next month.

The New Theatre Royal is introducing socially distanced seating, a pre-order bar service and staggered arrival times, along with other COVID-safe precautions to ensure the safety of those attending.

The team at New Theatre Royal have been working hard to prepare the Lincoln exclusive show and hope to offer audiences a fun experience back at the theatre.

Ms Hayes-Cowley said: “It’s very much a different experience, it’s not what we’ve ever done before at the theatre.

“We wanted to produce something different, that would work under social distancing measures.

“It will be a unique experience for the cast and the audience because of social distancing and all the other things we are having to do to keep people safe.”

The theatre plans to re-open to full audiences from June 21 onwards.
