A unique wildlife safari is coming to Lincoln next month.

Wild animals made of artificial grass are coming to the city for the first time as part of a new family-friendly trail over Easter.

The creative event is free and takes place from April 13 to April 24.

Ten sculptures including a three-metre-tall gorilla will be accompanied with a wacky fact about each animal in areas such as the Cornhill Quarter and the Waterside.

Lee Roberts, Operations Manager at Lincoln Business Improvement Group said: “We looked at what other cities were planning to do and a lot of them were planning traditional Easter kind of themed events like egg hunts. We wanted to do it slightly differently.

“It’s not really been to other cities before. There’s only been two or three and not in the last couple of years, so it’s something fresh and it’s definitely nothing that’s been in the area or the East Midlands before.”

Made of artificial grass, the gorilla sculpture stands a massive three metres tall. Lee Roberts from Lincoln BIG has described it as a “showstopper”.

There are also workshops as well as a competition with prizes including tickets to the new Theatre Royal for their performance of the Jungle Book.

City Dressing are place managers who specialise in event branding, designed the safari sculptures.

Jeremy Rucker, Managing Director at City Dressing said: “One of the secrets of making places interesting is taking things out of context. If you take animals and put them in city centres and cover them in grass, they’re going to be interesting.

“People look at them and go how did they do that!”

The animal sculptures take around three months to design from snatch and require a      high level of skill to complete.
