The Oscars this year are set to be a real battle as Avatar is up for 9 nominations including Best Director.
James Cameron’s epic is expected to sweep the board in most of the categories though he is not the favourite to win Best Director.
That honour goes to Kathryn Bigelow and her film ‘The Hurt Locker’, an American war epic which has been critically acclaimed as one of the best films of last year.
Nominations for Best Actor include Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in Invictus and Best Actress standouts include Meryl Streep for her role as Julia Child in Julie & Julia.
The star-studded ceremony will be held on Sunday 7th March.
