Over the last few years, atmospheres at football grounds, in particular Premier League grounds, have been subdued and been criticised for being too quiet.
We’ve seen Manchester United introduce a singing section to try and raise sound levels.
However, there are supporters clubs and some teams that believe in bringing back standing areas will improve the mood at atmosphere at football games, at all levels of the competition.
Ross Mooring, part of the Chelsea Supporters Trust said, “Standing sections encourage supporters who wish to stand and sing (the two are very much linked) to congregate together and will mean that there is at least one section of the ground adding noise and colour throughout games.”
Following the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, measures have been introduced to increase safety at football grounds. In the 1994-95 Premier League season, all top tiered English clubs were required to have all seater stadiums.
