New penalties for using your mobile phone whilst driving will be introduced in Lincolnshire at the start of March.
From March 1st, if caught using a mobile phone in any way whilst the motor is running then drivers will face six points on their license and a £200 fine. This also means that young drivers could be at risk of having their license revoked following a first offence. Also, drivers are no longer able to go on a driver awareness course as it will no longer be offered.
It has been illegal to use your mobile phone whilst driving since 2003 but people still seem to use them. John Siddle, communications manager for Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership believes that this is as a result of phones having more capabilities such as voice recognition and easy access to social media. However, he believes that these penalties are the wake up call that drivers need.
