Mud covered roads have led to farmers across Lincolnshire being given a police warning.
Guidance has been handed out by the National Farmers Union reminding them to clear mud of the roads in order to avoid creating dangerous conditions.
Gemma Peacock from Lincolnshire police said: “We’re putting out a warning to agricultural vehicle users that they are under legal obligation to make sure that they clear the mud away as much as they can, or they put signs out to alert drivers to the fact that it is there.”
When asked what further action would be taken if farmers did not comply Gemma said “Within our warning we would include saying that potentially legal action can be taken against them if they continue to leave mud on the road.”
“It’s a very important issue because it is such a danger to other drivers.”
Lincolnshire police see this mud not only as an annoyance but as a real danger. They say that this warning will benefit “anyone who uses the counties roads.”
“We do have people killed and seriously injured on our roads every year. That is why it is so important and that is why we’re putting out this warning.”
