Petrol and Hybrid car ban to come into force in 15 years

Hydrogen and battery powered cars are looking to become the new norm

The sale of Petrol, Diesel and Hybrid powered cars will be banned from as early as 2035, announces PM.

Boris Johnson made the declaration at the UN’s annual climate change meeting. This year the meeting (COP26) was held in Glasgow on Tuesday.

The ban is due to come into force five years earlier than the 2040 ban previously proposed by Teresa May back in 2017.

The proposal is an attempt to lower the amount of fuel emissions that are released into the atmosphere, which contribute to the pollution level and global warming.

The most commonly known form of electric car are Battery Electric Vehicles which uses energy stored in a battery pack in the floor of the car to power the electric motor and as a result there aren’t any emissions being produced by the car.

Statistics from the Department for Transport shows that the number of electric car sales in the UK shot up by over 200% in the last year, yet there are only 30 charging points.
