An iron arch costing £10,000 has been installed at the bottom of steep hill in Lincoln.
Traders in the historic street, known as ‘The Strait’, believe the arch will help attract customers to independent businesses in the area.
The fixture was designed and made in Lincolnshire and has taken four years of planning and fundraising to make.
Visitor information officer Jennie Bowmar said: “I think it’ll be a fabulous addition to Lincoln. Sometimes visitors get confused by so may different aspects of the city, so it will be a great visual sign for people to see. When the pedestrianisation of the High Street is finished it will create a boundary area of the Strait up to Steep Hill and to the historical part of Lincoln.”
Funding for the arch came from events organised by the traders and funding from Lincoln City Council and Lincolnshire City Council.
