Lincoln Vegan Food Festival made its return to Lincoln Drill Hall this month for the second time this year. The event which took place 6 April included a variety of stalls, live music and inspirational talks. It proved to be popular with visitors who attended in large numbers from all over the country.

There are currently around 540,000 vegans in the UK, which has grown from 150,000 in 2006.

Event organiser Shena Louise said about the event: “We’ve got around 35 stalls that are serving hot food, hot drinks, toiletries, and just about anything that’s vegan. It has been really busy today and we usually get around 1,000 visitors. We do two festivals annually and I’m really excited to see what today brings.”

As well as running the festival every year, Shena runs the organisation Pudz Animal Sanctuary where she has taken in 136 special needs animals.

The event included a £2 fee for entry and proceeds were donated to local animal charities. The festival takes place twice a year at Christmas and Spring.

“It’s all eco friendly. It’s all spreading the vegan word. All our inks on our stall are animal friendly as well. It’s just about spreading awareness really to try and get everyone to go vegan, if not, completely go vegan. I did Leeds at Christmas and I’ve done various ones around Hull as well. It just seems to be getting busier and busier”, said stallholder Darren Grey.

There are currently around 540,000 vegans in the UK, which has grown from 150,000 in 2006. Increasing interests in healthy eating and animal welfare have been estimated to be the main reasons for the lifestyle change which continues to rise across the country.
