Only goal difference is keeping Lincoln out of the relegation zone after losing to Bath this weekend.
Lincoln didn’t have the best start at Bath and gave away a penalty in the second minute to go 1 – 0 down. Lincoln’s nightmare start continued in the fourth minute when a back heel goal from Bath midfielder Marley Watkins made the score 2-0 to Bath.
Bath parked the bus early on and expected Lincoln to try to challenge them. They almost looked happy just to sit back for the rest of the game after the first ten minutes.
Lincoln showed some threat in the early parts of the first half through Pacquette but apart from the odd flair from him, Lincoln created very little.
However the Imps did start playing better after the half hour mark with Robbie William’s narrowly missing from inside the penalty area with a headed chance. Jamie Taylor and Alan Power then came close with Taylor narrowly missing the right top corner and Power forced Bath keeper, Glyn Garner, to make a good save moments after.
As the half time whistle went Bath looked lucky to go in two up and Lincoln looked puzzled as to why they hadn’t scored.
At the start of the second half Bath tried to start off the half just as they started the first half with a shot from Andy Gallinagh which skimmed the top right corner of the Lincoln upright. Bath continued to press and counter in the early parts but nothing came through.
Lincoln’s did start to build some stream with some good sections of play and some good attempts on goal. Bath continued to defend well will two goal line clearances within the space of two minutes.
Hope was restored for the Imps when substitute Danny Lloyd scored in the 75th minute and made the score 2-1. Goalkeeper Joe Anyon then played a key part in the late stages by keeping out Bath’s Scott Murray’s shot. Bath then had a goal disallowed for an unfair challenge.
Danny Lloyd continued to shine as the game came to an end and showed Lincoln supporters that there is hope for them staying up this season. The midfielder continued to supply crosses and continued to charge at the Bath defence but nothing came of the forward play.
As the final whistle went boos were heard from the Lincoln supporters as they left the stadium. Lincoln now sit above the relegation zone and are kept out only by their goal difference. Bath will be ecstatic after a vital 3 points for them.
Lincoln’s next two games are against Newport, who sit above them, and Hayes, who sit below them. If Lincoln don’t win these next to games there is a strong possibility they will go down.
