Lincolnshire Police are warning residents of the West End area of the city to be vigilant following a series of break-ins.
A number of reports have been made to the force in recent weeks regarding overnight break-ins, however the police are still looking for possible links between each of the incidents.
David Devine, 20, a Film and Television student at the university who lives on Carholme Road, Lincoln, recently had his home broken into.
He said: “I was sitting in my bedroom and I had my window open slightly. I went to the toilet and was only gone for 2 or 3 minutes.
“When I came back the window was really far open and I couldn’t find my laptop, so I checked downstairs, but when it wasn’t there either I stated to panic.
“I didn’t quite believe it at first, but once I did I went through a range of emotions.
“I lost a lot work on my laptop that I hadn’t backed up, so I was very upset.”
Judith Kent from Lincolnshire Police said: “It’s always this time of year with the darker nights when the break-ins most commonly occur.
“We want to get the message out to people that they need to be sensible, lock their doors, and keep their valuables in a safe place.”
