The City of Lincoln Council is set to become the first local authority in the city to pay the living wage to all its staff.
The living wage has increased by twenty pence, to seven pounds eighty-five an hour. The rise comes as part of Living Wage Week.
Employers such as Nationwide and Barclays are already accredited as paying the recommended rate but The Living Wage Foundation want other business to join the scheme.
Under new proposals, the City of Lincoln Council staff earning the lowest wage brackets will see a raise of over £1 per hour thanks to the living wage.
The new living wage will cost the council roughly £31,000 to implement, but will enable the workers on average to be £41 better off per week.
If the proposal is approved, the living wage for Lincoln council workers would go into effect in September, but it will be backdated from April 1, 2013.
